School Board Calls for Special Election
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.--The Fayetteville Board of Education voted unanimously to call for a special election on February 11, 2020, to request voter approval of a bond restructuring. With voter approval and no millage increase, the district will restructure eight bonds that will generate $111 million to address facility needs across the district, including renovation and upgrades of facilities, land acquisition, new school construction, and energy efficiencies. These upgrades will impact every student, in every school and facility across the district.
Board president Justin Eichmann noted that the February special election would allow the district to take advantage of currently favorable interest rates. “I am thrilled to see several years of preparation and research from our team position us to move forward with an election and a plan that positions our district for even greater student success.”
“I am pleased to see our school board take this step,” said Dr. John L Colbert, Superintendent of Schools. “Our Strategic Plan, which was developed by the school board, includes goal four, which calls for all students to have equitable, financially sustainable access to safe and innovative physical and technological resources. The revenue from the bond restructuring will allow us to touch every school in the district, as well as address the growth in our student enrollment, without a millage increase.”

T-Shirt/Hoodie Order Forms were sent home in yesterday’s Monday Folders.
Note that the order forms were printed in color and that the items are navy.
There are football-style t-shirts that run true to size - and more of a men’s fit - for children and adults, v-neck t-shirts that have a slimmer, women’s fit for adults, and hoodies that fit like the previous grey hoodies.
We plan on ordering items based on the orders we receive, so if you are interested in purchasing anything, please complete and submit the order form and return it along with payment prior to December 2.
We do plan on placing an order in the spring as well - so there will be another chance to order items (but it won’t be for a couple months).
TOMORROW, Wednesday, Nov 20, IS THE LAST DAY FOR COLLECTING MAC AND CHEESE BOXES! Help our Random Acts of Kindness team collect boxes of Mac and Cheese Food Drive
Students are trying to reach a goal of 700 boxes of mac and cheese. Mrs. L and The Random Acts of Kindness team is spearheading this drive for Washington Elementary. If they reach their goal, Mrs. Mobley will wear her clothes backwards and walk up the stairs backwards all day long! There will be a Mac and Cheese-ometer in the front hallway to see how close we are to reaching our goal so keep your eyes on that! Get those mac and cheese boxes in by November 20th.
VISIT THE BOOKFAIR THIS WEEK!!! Students will visit during their library time. Washington Elementary Scholastic Book Fair is November 18th - November 22nd. Every purchase from the book fair earns rewards for our school, so please stop by and support us. It will be open during the Thanksgiving Luncheon if you'd like to shop at that time.
FYI: Online and phone ordering for Square One art orders has been extended through Tuesday, November 19!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP SET UP AND CLEAN UP WASHINGTON’S ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FAMILY LUNCHEON
Volunteers are needed both to set up first thing in the morning (starting around 8:15/8:30 - the first lunch is at 10:30 so we have to be done by then) and clean up following the last lunch - around 1pm.
The last lunch is the 2nd Grade lunch so 2nd Grade families might be in the best position to help clean up.
We will be setting up/cleaning up in the cafeteria and gym .

All FPS schools will close at 2:00 p.m. today due to inclement weather and road conditions. Students who ride buses will be kept at school until their bus arrives.
